I am happy to be back in the St. Louis area after my education and clinical practice experiences in Chicago and Boston. I first witnessed the power of acupuncture when it was used to treat my horse after a devastating illness. That experience led me to an explore acupuncture and herbal medicine for myself. There is a beauty in Oriental medicine as a holistic treatment that compelled me to learn this medicine, transforming my desire to care for patients as a nurse, to treating patients as Oriental medicine practitioner.
The experience I gained in the acupuncture practitioner residencies at Boston Medical Center and All Care Hospice demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture as an integrative therapy for many conditions. Oriental medicine provides not just symptom relief, but stimulates the body’s own potential for healing to address the root of many chronic conditions. This makes it both a treatment and a preventative medicine. My degree in the Tufts Pain Research, Education and Policy program, gives me a deep understanding of the complex issues – physical, emotional, psychological and cultural – faced by patients with acute and chronic pain.
In addition to Chinese acupuncture and Asian Body Therapy, I have advanced training in Japanese style acupuncture which involves diagnosis with abdominal palpation, gentler and shallower needle insertion, and Shakuju – a non-insertive method of acupuncture that balances the entire body. I have a strong interest in acupuncture as an integrative therapy for neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and stroke, as well as veterans’ health issues.
