Health is not the absence of illness

Nor is it the numbers in a blood chemistry report…
The condition of knees as the years progress…
Headcolds…
Depression…
Shape of the pulse, or fur on the tongue…

It is the vitality to live life fully,
to live into what we dream and dare to make so.
It is the ability and wherewithal to engage fully one’s life.
To live with resilience and adaptability.
I have known people with terminal illness who were the picture of health.
They breathed radiance through tumor infested lungs.
I have known people without a trace of disease,
but inhabited a life that was without joy or spark.
.

YONG KANG, translated into English is something like “eternal wellbeing.”
But, really, when you think about how life is when it flows like a mountain green stream.
When it bursts pink azaleas on the last remains of a winter gray day.
When it resembles the taste of amber gold tea that fills your nose, and and melts past and future like last night’s dream.
Dreams and the ability to carry them out.
Contently alive in all the present moments. These don’t show up on a test. Drugs can not open these doors. But, acupuncture….
….it has a way of reminding of us of this vitality.
Vitality is health!
