Autumn in China
Sep 5th, 2007 by Michael Max
This seems to be a habit, Autumn in China.
It is not that it has the explosions of deciduous color, nor does the sky there turn an impossible crisp blue. But, the summer swelter has evaporated, and the oppression of triple digit humidity has receded as well. This year it is not some odd migratory sense that draws me back, instead it is yet another journey of discovery. This time taking a group of practitioners back to study the unique and clinically useful methods of Doctor Huang. It is not that I’m greedy, but it seemed a shame to just translate his words in print, when there is an opportunity to bring westerners to the Middle Kingdom to study with Huang directly.

There are those in medicine who hold their skills and knowledge as secrets, and there are those who are an open book for those who have the ability to read, the willingness to engage, and the courage to lay oneself open to new experience. We are headed to Nanjing to spend time with a doctor that bridges ancient medicine and the modern world.
A year ago at this time, there was nothing more than a vague dream of finding something unique and useful in China that could help western practitioners in their clinical practice. That opportunity showed itself last year in 陽朔.
Now in October, ten of us will journey to Nanjing, to drink more deeply from that source, and bring it back to our practices in the States!
